Released today in 1987: Another Step (Closer To You)

Another Step (Closer To You) returned Junior (Giscombe) to the Top 10 five years after he was last there with his first single Mama Used To Say. Although he had released a string of competent singles between the two releases named above, he had been unlucky. Only his second single followed his debut into the upper reaches of the chart; all the rest fell short of the Top 40. He recorded three albums for PolyGram in this period but these enjoyed limited commercial success, and his fourth, Sophisticated Street, was released too long after his duet with Kim Wilde to take advantage of the song’s success. However, by the end of the 80s Junior would become label-mates with Wilde when he joined her at MCA and his time there did see a brief return to the charts in his own right early in the 90s.
